SO according to the current entry list, there is 10 MX5s on the event!
is this some kind of Might5s invasion?

There's always loads of MX5s at Solos because they're such a good car for it. It also means there's healthy competition and paddock banter.

Ahhh, love a bit of bants, me....
It'll be like Bantanamo bay in the car park...
Horney, being the senior (read experienced) racer in the pack we'll call you the Archbishop (of Banterbury...)
I'll bring some Banston pickle...
...etc.

Its nice to see people taking the entry regs seriously, but almost every 'solo or 'test I have been to involves a lot of car types wanting to have a play on some tarmac/gravel/dirt/grass, and they aren't necessarily interested in going over your car with a fine tooth comb in order to refuse you entry and lose their entry fee. If your car is safe and you are not a suicidal moron endangering marshalls and other competitors, you will pretty much get a free pass as a newbie. If you rock up with a race car, just expect to be in the 'top' class, and expect little congratulations if you smash everyone else. Smashing everyone else will *not be a foregone conclusion however, there are a few stealth masters about as horney pointed out. People want more people to do this sport, you can expect a warm welcome, after all its someone else that us more experienced drivers have a (better?) chance at beating!
I have been to events where I have been told to label up the battery and no roof up, then no roof down, then no roof up, not allowed to adjust the coilovers between runs (?!), no taping the handbrake button down, etc etc, I just don't go back to those because its no fun, there are enough events going if you're willing to travel.
Get stuck in and enjoy it, its ace!

Autosolo is being the choice of racing entry for me as it requires a standard car, the entry fees are very cheap compared to track, and the layout and technicality of the track will give smaller engine cars a chance against the bigger stuff.
I'm glad theres a ton of 5's going, it'll not only give me a benchmark to see whether I'm competitive (not expecting to be!) but also to see how people are modding their cars for the event whilst staying in the regs. Cars like yours Horney who race both hillclimb and autosolo seem to have different regs - from what I see hillclimb allows stripped interiors and autosolo doesn't? I'd like to do both so to see how cars have been set up for both is going to be great.
I doubt the scrutineers are going to send me home because I'm missing a couple of rattling trim pieces, the weight saving has been more than negated by the amp and sub, though I really don't fancy driving 100 miles at 6am to be sent home over it - having the clarification from people on the circuit really helps. Thanks all!

Hillclimbing does allow stripped interior but it bumps you up a class. I run in road going production class so I have all my interior still in place.

Thanks all! I will see you at the Autosolo, i am sharing my car with my mate John who is about to enter the world of the mighty 5! I have entered the Gurston Hill climb the following week - I will be going into Class 4a - the roadgoing production car class. As far as I can make out as long as the Engine and drive train is standard (exhaust and air intake pre TB is free) and you have all interior trim all is ok - there is no separate MX5 class that weekend so it means I can use my ME221 - for the MX5 class I would need to go back to the standard ECU. You also need to fit a timing strut, took me 15 mins to make. Tyres are 1a list. We can have a chat at Kemble. You will also need a MSA national B non race licence - £43 The big expense is the FIA approved helmet, gloves and race suit, weirdly boots are not mandatory! (but worthwhile)

BikeTuna, You'll see when you turn up that the more serious people have tuned there cars within the regs when it comes to what you can take out and do etc, I wouldn't worry too much, sounds like your car is going to be fine, you'll have a good day, you'll see Mike Biss knocking it out the park in his mk1, he is always up there, really well driven, if my head is in the game you might see a mk3 going well too I tend to be less consistent, moments of brilliance sandwiched between some utter muppetry For Hills and sprints, its just the safety gear that is the main cost, everything else you can just go as your car is with some numbers and a timing strut. There is supposedly going to be a standard production class next year where drivers of post 2000 cars can run at a sprint without all the safety gear. (perhaps just helmet?)

There should be a Mike Biss class written into in the regs. That'd give everyone a chance then.

Just had a look at the Gurston Downs MX5 regs (for interest only). So what's the "final drive Kia Sportage" mod they're allowing? Cheers, Pewe.
