great cost breakdown for a turbo racecar in ozidollhairs from beavis motorsport. Man math rule 1) Never count the spend of any project (it's about fun, not money). Man math rule 2) Never tell the wife the real cost (she may not understand that you can't put a price on happiness). Man math rule 3) When you've already spent too much, it's probably better to keep spending rather than abandon the project.

Cool video, so basically just over £20,000 for a fully sorted 300bhp MX5 track car? As he said, you couldn't buy a new ND for that ... and I know which I'd rather have / which will hold its value better!
I might try to work out what mine owes me ...

I hope you didn't sell your lexus V8 five for less than £15k,looking at these costs.
Have you seen the used prices of the US V8 cars? Double that sometimes.

It's not that bad, I could build another one for about £8k but in all honesty, I wouldn't. It was a really cool car and I'm glad I owned it, but it just wasn't enough ... I started comparing it to other 5s I'd owned and it came up short. If I'd spent another £5k, I could have got it pretty nice, but it would never have had enough power. An LS V8 ... now that's a very different beast, and something I'll consider as the cost would be similar to an LFX Russell

I'd love a proper American V8. I just don't know how they will handle with all that mass. I guess you'd have to put some extra weight in the back to balance it out.
Alternatively there are some specialist companies making small capacity high revving V8s. I think it was Jun who put one in a GT86. I am sure one engine maker was out in NZ. Using bike parts I think? Mega money though. Although probably perfect for a light car....
In a Ginetta G4... Would be amazing. Better handling that a five, less mass, way more power than mine will have. Would be a micro supercar

Although ability and stats aside... Just the noises... Drool...
Headphones on, volume up - sounds like Godzilla roaring inside a volcano...
Stats don't mean much after that audio porn

I’ve seen that Lola at CLM, it makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up when it goes past.
That’s the only slight downfall of the exhaust that i put on my TVR; now it’s got an 8-4-2 equal length manifold & sounds like a flat plane manifold.

Why do the American V8s sound so amazing compared to any other sort? 🤔

Here you go... 350bhp, 30kg lighter, mega revs... Synergy V8... Possibly the ultimate engine for light sports cars. I can only imagine what a weapon an Elan or Ginetta G4 would be with one...
Put in one of these...
Probably not too comfy, quiet, practical or ideal for a tour. Although at least you will be dry, unlike a caterham or Radical etc. Must be incredible fun for an hour or so in smaller doses. A micro V8 powered retro rollerskate... yes please!
(Although with more budget and being practical, I'd still prefer a Lola / GD T70 or Cobra).

Zero budget limits... one of these please GDT70, spaceframe, LS engine with circa 700bhp. About as cool as anything you can find. Mind blowing sounds. Reel in GT3 like they are parked. For me, the ultimate car. If I ever have a spare £70k or so, I'm getting one the next day

Would be a micro supercar I thought that, but I've been watching some videos of V8 cars on track and they seem to go really well in the corners. I was surprised how well my 1UZ car handled, although it does remain a concern ... as ever, finding the right engine is key. The more modern V8s are a lot lighter than the older ones, and there are a lot of changes that can be made to save or shift weight around. That said, my car will be primarily be a track / fast road car, so I need to make sure it will do the job before I spend a load of money and time building it! If I could get enough power out of a V6 I'd go that way, but I'm not sure that will work without a lot of tuning which will stress the engine / cost as load more Russell

If I was in the market, I'd start by listing every engine I could think of and note it's weight, peak torque an hp numbers. Then see how easy they are to modify and look at relliability and affordability etc.
Things are much easier to compare when they're in a spreadsheet.

For a pure track car I think a K20 or K24 could be the best. Purely as its one of the lightest options out there. Reliable as hell. Add an SC for mad power. Better than mine for weight and power with an SC. I was toying with those for ages.
I only went for mine for the noise in road use. Plus I missed the smooth delivery of my older cars with six cylinders. I didn't miss the fuel of my past V8s mind you haha
