That wood effect is hateful! Yeah I've been watching videos all of yesterday and I've been there before, just not driven around it. Horney that would be quality if you don't mind? I'll need to make sure I get there nice and early. I'm on the 14:00 slot so long after you lot. Sound. I'm not going out on track now as my car is borked so happy to go out with people and give pointers.

I have nothing to compare it to? If I can be anywhere near that then I'd be pleased, I fear I'll be like Terry Wogan on Top Gear.

I have lost count how many hours i have done at combe. The lap in question is at 4.20 in this video. 1a means cheap road tyres. Stock power is 1.8 around 130hp I could not squeeze any more out the car personally. I have 1b tyres which means fast road semi slicks on now so hoping to improve on my times

I'd like to get some proper time at Combe, perhaps a couple of full track days over the summer. One thing I know that needs to be sorted is my coilovers, they're pretty poor (no idea what brand) but I've heard Combe is bumpy so will be giving my suspension a proper work out. Tyres should be ok but they're by no means track tyres. It's just gonna be a case of getting as much seat time as I can.

Mx5 cup cars are properly well set up and will be corner weighted etc. That and a very good driver at the sharp end gives you that kind of lap time. Anyone into the 1:20's in a road car on road tyres is going some.

I'm at 1.22 dead in a mk3 last year, probably nearing 1.20 now on a hot lap with this years tweaks but never got to try before hitting an alternator on track...grr, managed 1.23 under sprint conditions this year which was not bad for cold and my last timed run extrapolating from my data logger ( I was given a fail for going off on last corner, too much kerb greed ) shows I would have been in late 1.21, early 1.22s under sprint conditions, pretty happy with that pace really as I have probably compromised the car for high speed with the diff ratio change.
I know there is more time to be had, I haven't really mastered trail braking so there plenty of time left out there through the chicanes once I grow some balls.
Those 1.6 race cars, all I can say is fair play
In the BMC MX5 class this year which are fairly stock cars (not stripped out racers) I think the quickest sprint lap was 1.26 you can probably drop 1-1.5 seconds for what the car will do when fully up to temp, that was Louis Ruff in his mk2.

I thought one of the guys did a 1.24 in my class - i think that was the mk3 on the sprint, but perhaps my maths is crap!! Interesting that Louis was 1st in a mk2, 2nd was mk3 and 3rd was a mk1. shows that any car can be competitive. I went out at Combe in a mission motorsport 1.6 mk1 driven by one of their race drivers - wow, shows how fast you can be in the hands of an expert!!

Nope, Andrew in the Mk3 was quickest in practice and matched Louis lap time of 1.26 (lap time is final time minus int time from these results ) obviously not an official lap in the true sense as it is not start line to start line but a lap all the same, but then he went down hill when it mattered.
Most of the time at Combe comes from confidence on brakes, confidence to go over avon rise 100+ rather than scrub loads off before and patience to set you car up for the corners. I'm sure someone with the full complement of driving skills in there a.r.s.e.n.a.l would absolutely kill me in my car I am bad at the chicanes and camp, I struggle with the weight transfer due to overly aggressive inputs.

Picking this up again a little. On my first time out on any track ever, I managed to get roughly about 1.36 around Combe with zero experience, terrible rear suspension sag and being held up by a 205 GTI. I'm pretty pleased with that.
Also I seemed to suffer with some pretty bad understeer around Quarry. I found myself coming over Avon Rise at about 100mph, heavy on the brakes before turn in and happy with my track position up until the exit where I was struggling to keep the front planted. Is 100mph too fast? Or would this just be down to pants suspension and road tyres?
