Instead of making yet more threads, I'll just spam into this one General topics.. anything to do with cars, engineering, materials, science, astronomy... even nature and history if we get weird. It's all connected one way or another. Anyone's invited to post on this.

Turns out the reason the Underground is too hot (especially in summer) is... HEAT SOAK Since the ground beneath london was tunnelled through with starting-stopping hot-stinky-breaking tubes the temperature has risen. it was originally 14C and you needed a jumper to work there even in summer. 100 years later and it's a bit warmer - hitting 30C in summer. The Lexus i200, faster than a Ferrari Enzo, apparently. The forum seems a bit quiet so here's my attempt at a contribution, and this really does amuse me for some reason.

Although it looks at first glance as though the power input is constantly increasing, that's really only due to the addition of new lines. The lines which were already in service by the end of WW2 have had roughly constant power demand ever since. I was puzzled by what caused the sharp dip in 2002 but wasn't there a big tube strike that year?

martiny If you look at the 2002 dip it appears to be mostly due to the central line. Upgrades ? idk.
