I initially thought wooooah the RT1000 is expensive but it's an obvious safety item so I guess it's not really that pricey?
I've been looking at inatrim seats today. Just out of interest. They look nice to be honest... Not sure on quality though.
Are they the Recaros you are running Alex?

I'm thinking of getting a sprint, then I can stick my cheap grp seat on the passenger side, save a bit of weight. Any larger chaps got a sprint - I'm 6ft and quite long legged, 36" waist - would it be comfortable- I guess I'd need to lose the oem sliders?

The RT1000 was solid as a rock when I tried one, no flex in it whatsoever and accommodating for most sizes. Me and the missus are very different shapes but we both fit and were comfy lol
I think they have them at GSM but don't recommend them for the 5 because of the wings issue. If you can, try one out if/when you visit and compare comfort/back support to the standard go-to choices. My back is terrible and I found only the RT1000 had any lower back support, and it was comfy too! Not many about, seemingly, but good reports of long distance comfort on some yank forum, where it's 7 hours to get anywhere lol
I think seats are a very personal choice. I would recommend trying out as many as possible then spend a good 20+ minutes sat in your most preferred option, perhaps just surfing on your phone so you don't look too weird lol. Like beds and shoes, we drop big money on things we try for only minutes, whereas we'll be in/on them for hours at a time in day-to-day use!
MX5 restorer chap near the south coast might also still have the NAR seat available that was mentioned on here previously.

You are very right about trying them. There is a real lack of places down south that supply seats though. True on the personal taste too. Unlike most I don't find Elise seats comfy at all.
Cobra Classic RS,Sparco Stadium, Corbeau Retro Bucket (?) OMP Classic & Brands hatch etc all look nice but there isn't much info on them out there.

I don't think I've tried the Elise seats but they look similar to the carbon things in that now discontinued 2-seater thing - Zelos, is it? They are made by someone else and rebranded but I'm buggered if I can remember what they're called, and when I tried them I found they lacked lower back support, despite a lot of people saying that they were comfy.
Literally none of the others seem to have lower back support, some are literally just a flat bit of board at the back! Our spines are not that shape!!

Don't know where you are in the South but Merlin at Castle Combe have a good selection of seats you can try

I'm 6'3" and have a 36" waist. I'm kind of ok with the standard seat with foamectomy but have tried a Sparco Sprint and find while it fits fine everywhere else, the way my right leg hangs with no support around the knee means the side of the seat digs into my thigh. Is there any kind of knee support that works, perhaps by attaching it to the door handle, or am I better off finding a seat with a wider base? I have JB mounts with the seat angled back as far as possible but just can't get support under my thighs without fouling the steering wheel.
I could just go back to standard seat but prefer the Sparco, just without my leg going to sleep after 20 minutes.

I’ve got a Sabet Gt-090 with the JB mounts. Fits me like an absolute glove with a 32” waist, I’m big at top on shoulders. Sit nice and low although with a helmet I still hit my head on a hardtop (I’m 6ft).

I have a Motordrive Pro seat. Side mounts bolted straight to the floor of the car so its as low as it will go. Standard rear seat mounts have been removed from chassis. The bottom of the seat where your ass goes is touching the floor so its impossible to go lower without lowering the floor of the car or using no seat. I'm 6'2 long leg and its near enough the pefect driving position, would like a bit more reclined but back of seat hits on parcel shelf. You can see how far under the rollbar it sits here,

I bet you’ve got short legs though. I’m not exactly tall but I’ve got the legs of a full size adult...
I’ve got hold of a pair of Momo seats for a reasonable price. I’ll see how they go. Due to my short body I’ll try them on my standard rails first to see how I get on.
