How did I forget this option...
Lotus Elan Sprint. Leno even ditched the cast iron block for an alloy one. Sweet little car and ultra light.
Might be a hanging offence, but how about a Honda K24 on ITB in one? Cage it for track use. Titanium exhaust. Watanabe rims. Sexy looks. Could be a dream weapon!
It won't be cheaper than my dream race spec Cobra though. So not a lot of car for all that coin I guess.

Thinking about cobras and elans, makes me realise how much I like the mx5 still, it may not have the cachet of these cars but it is far less troubling to maintain and all-round easier to live with for daily or ad-hoc use, while still being trackable and amazing. k24 in anything is never a hanging offence well, other than in an rx7..

It would certainly be interesting to run some of these dream cars alongside an MX5. I suspect there will be things the five does which the others won't match. Vice versa. Short of a lottery win I will never know. As they say... One of the secrets in life is to learn to be happy with what you have. For us, that is easy

I wont dare go into too much.
But I bought the car for around £1500 5 years ago. I've done lots of stuff to it since then...
Mods that I've put on and taken off again a year later etc. Now turbo charged too. So I'd imagine I've spent well on 6k over the 5 years.
My logic is. I don't have any other vices (maybe the odd video game) but I quit drinking when I got the mx5, so I've saved over a grand a year in booze money which goes on the car instead. Man maths right? 😉

Just think about the average Joe in their rented dull family prarrie canoe box wagon. £200 per month for eternity. Well let's just say do that for a decade... £24000. With nothing to show for it. Do that for a lifetime...
So who cares what we spend to enjoy life. Some of our cars are merely entry level Swiss Watch prices.
