Sorry for those who might be on Nutz, this is a repeat. I bought a complete second hand Racing Beat exhaust system. From the header to a dual tip mufler with a sports cat. Everything went on well, just lined nicely. Stood back and to my amazement the left hand side tip is way to low. The right tip fits in the bumper cut-out perfectly. Called RB (USA) if they had any ideas suggestions and I followed what they said (see below). Ordered some new engine mount rubbers (OEM) and installed them. The right hand side was about 5mm thinner than the new one (compression over time). The left mount was not original mx5 ... no idea where it came from but it certainly wasn't OEM but was orinal thickness. Change it anyway Changed all the rubbers holding the exhaust with new OEM ones. The end result looked actually a bit worst! The pipes coming out of the canister dont look bent. So I heated up the left bracket of the canister so as to raise the rubber mounting hole. looks better but it still doesn't look like it should. Has anybody installed a complete exhaust line on a MK1 1.8 (1994)? Did the dual tips line up perfectly ?

Strange one, I had a set on a Mk1 1.6 and they lined up perfectly ... will see if I can find any pics. Racing Beat stuff tends to be really well made as I've had several systems on various cars and never had an issue

Is it possible to rotate them at all to achieve an even height, ie slacken the clamps and rotate the tail pipes? This may result in them not being central on the bumper cutouts...

That is weird...
If it's the one I think it is, it definitely fitted spot-on on the previous car!
I'm not sure how it is made up - is there a single box with two pipes at the rear, joining to the mid-pipe?
If it is like that, does the rear box connection need to be rotated on the mid-pipe?
EDIT: I am slowwww to type, others have already made similar suggestions!

Are those photos of it sitting without any connection to the mid pipe ? i.e. not bolted up ? ^^ it's vaguely possible to mess up that bolting, vaguely....
Did you get any photos of it installed on the previous owner's car ?

Thanks all for your input, appreciate it. All the connections are bolt-on as in every pipe has flanges with round holes for the bolts so not much play for adjustment. I did start by the manifold and finished by the end muffler, just because I was laying on the ground and it was easier that way. I will loosen all the bolts and see what that does and sort of tighten them starting from the back maybe.
The previous owner had his rear bumper cut-out right across so hard to see the alignement but it didn’t look wrong, yes the exhaust did come from a white mx5 that’s having a swap at the moment 😂
I did have to start the engine just to hear the sound, it was music to my ears 😎

It’s possible that if you undo all the flanges the clearance between the bolts and the holes will give you enough “twist” to get the alignment you want, starting from the rear with the tips in the position you want as others have suggested.

another thought, one of your exhaust mounts is damaged - guessing the one on the left side ?

So ... it’s back on the road Re-hung the rubber by the cat. Loosened all the bolts. Put a jack under the left exhaust tip and got it to the same height as the right hand side and then gently retightened all the exhaust bolts. Perfecto! Cut the bumper ... looks good, sound a tad louder than I expected when on the pedal but cruising is melodious! My wife hasn’t been in it yet will see what she says. Photos to come Thanks all for your help

Only just found this thread. Glad to hear it's all sorted now. Of course it was all aligned perfectly on my (silver!) five. Surprising there was room for mounting errors. You'd think it would be pretty locked in one spot.

I did have some engine mount problems, rhs was dead, left was the right hight but no way was it original, as in came off a mx5. Had to rebend the left rear rubber mount bracket and with the jack keeping the left side where I wanted it all went well. Below 3k the sound is just right, above if I push hard (step hard?) it starts screaming. I didn’t realise that Temperature made that much difference but it sure does. I’ve got to work on some padding in the boot and trans tunnel to keep some of the “booming” in control. Now the real problem is that it sounds a lot more power then it real is ... and that is misleading. So I have to work on some engine stuff to correct this lie

Yeah the RB sounds like a mini TVR doesnt it. Enjoy, as you will get used to it, then not really notice after a while
