I'm thinking I might have a stab at doing the turret nylon bush thing and oil stuff, which seems to be suggested as a way to get the gearchange back to how it originally was
Is there a recommended kit or collection of components for doing it?
The Moss kit looks comprehensive but is out of stock:
www.moss-europe.co.uk/shop-by-model/mazda/mx-5-mk1-na/service-parts/upgraded-gear-lever-rebuild-kit-907-255.html
and includes a bronze (rather than nylon) bush thing, which is itself almost 20 quid:
www.moss-europe.co.uk/upgraded-gear-lever-bushes-bronze-53493.html
or even 25 quid from Bofi!
bofiracing.co.uk/beatrush-bronze-shifter-bush-for-mazda-mx-5-na-nb/
I presume this kit has parts that replace the OEM upper gear lever bush kit they sell:
www.moss-europe.co.uk/shop-by-model/mazda/mx-5-mk1-na/service-parts/bush-kit-gear-lever-907-181.html
Alternatively, one could order the rebuild kit without the bronze bush and then add the bronze bush from the link above:
www.moss-europe.co.uk/shop-by-model/mazda/mx-5-mk1-na/service-parts/rebuild-kit-gear-lever-909-930.html
The MX5Parts OEM kit seems to contain an upper and a lower seal and a nylon bush thing:
www.mx5parts.co.uk/gearlever-shift-boot-package-genuine-mazda-mk1-25-pri-1111.html?reviews_id=12586
but as per that review, it doesn't contain "the two nylon rings and retaining springs that sit each side of the large gear shift ball" - which I'm not sure the Moss kit contains??
They also have an IL Motorsport kits, but I don't think it includes the nylon/brass thing or any of the other stuff that's pictured in the Moss kit:

Autolink does the lower gear shift rubber:
www.autolinkmx5.com/gearshift-boot-lower-gear-shift-rubber-mazda-mx-5-1989-93-m51417480a-4396-p.asp
and the upper gear shift rubber:
www.autolinkmx5.com/gearshift-boot-upper-gear-shift-rubber-seal-genuine-mazda-mx-5-mk1--mk2-na0164481b-101-p.asp
and a gear lever upper change bush:
www.autolinkmx5.com/gear-lever-upper-change-bush-m50117481-mazda-mx-5-mk1-1989-98-8961-p.asp
and the nylon cup thing:
www.autolinkmx5.com/gear-lever-base-nylon-cup-mazda-mx-5-5-speed--early-6-speed-039817462a-1261-p.asp
Then there's this 'gearshift wave washer upper bush R50217492', which seems to be not mentioned elsewhere?:
www.autolinkmx5.com/gear-lever-upper-change-bush-r50217492-mazda-mx-5-mk2--mk25-1998-2005-8403-p.asp
"This also is used at the bottom of the gearshift on mk1 MX-5 manual models although it is not mentioned in the parts catalogue."
but would that be everything needed from Autoparts? The list doesn't seem to contain as many components as are visible in the Moss kit, and it doesn't include any springs mentioned in the MX5Parts review...
And do we need 'turret oil' for all but the Moss kit??
Any advice/recommendations very gratefully received!!
