I'm getting lots of inside wheel spin on the hairpins, might just be unloaded but shouldn't the LSD be doing something about that? what diff have you got? a torsen will loose drive when a wheel is lifted, a plate lsd will try to drive (depending on setup & wear)
AFAIK, I have the standard diff from a '91 JDM car. According to the model code gumph it just says LSD.

A plate LSD would be a Kaaz the or similar ? teh only problem with those is the cost ;-) yup, in UK theres 3J making plate Lsd's (on my xmas list, shame I'm not religious ) www.3jdriveline.com/webshop/limited-slip-differentials/mazda-mx5-large-nxg-can be ordered to spec & spares are available (unlike off-the-shelf offerings - kaaz etc. ) but are not cheap..... some early Eunos cars with the 6" diff have a Mazda Motorsports plate lsd's (my '91 has, must have had a rich first owner that specified the option ) but these are sorta old now, most will be worn and the 6" diff isn't the strongest especially when 27-30 years old & never serviced Rich.

My car is a 2.5 with the 3.6 torsen and the 6 speed box hence the slightly lower gearing. I was on road tyres , Michelin PS3 , as the Bristol Motor club mx5 challenge is list 1a so no semi slicks. Yes I was no 407. If your car is still stock power then join the challenge next year details here bristolmc.org.uk/mx5challenge/and here www.mx5challenge.co.uk/I was running PS3s on Sunday too, though they came with the wheels and are probably well past their best.
Mine would meet the regs for stock, but looking at the cars and times from Wiscombe I wouldn't stand much chance of being competitive. Also I'm not very near Bristol so I'm guessing I would have quite a trek to most of the events (couldn't see an event list on either of those links). Wiscombe was fun and is a lovely place, though I doubt I'd do it again for a single day's competition, I spent longer getting there and back than I did doing the event!

Hi Guys, Sorry to have missed the party at Wiscombe. My finger is still swollen up but recovering enough to use the clutch on my motorbike. Wiscombe is a fun course,the elevation changes at Sawbench and Martini are pretty severe on the inside line, a Torson Diff can not cope as it relies on both wheels being in contact with the tarmac, as soon as a wheel lifts it plays at being an open diff, If you have stiff antiroll bars driving around the corner is faster as you get better drive out of it. I suspect a late turn in at Sawbench from the tyre barrier just before the marshals post with an exit just close to the outside bank by the crossing keeping away from the apex is smoother, if you take the apex the car lift its inside wheel and looses drive and heads for the outside bank. Martini is a similar case hug the righthand side and take a late entry into it and let the car wash out toward the right just before the line. If you have a proper LSD you can get closer to the apex and still maintain drive. There is always next year I am only 1.5 hours away from Wiscombe.

the challenge is normally 4 x sprints at castle combe (2), Llandow (1) and Clay pigeon, 4 x Hillclimbs all manor farm, and 4 x autosolos at Kemble (2) and Weston Zoyland (2).
This may change next year. The competitors at Wiscombe are all event winners the field is often more than 10 drivers and there is close competition throughout the field.

Agree with you on the line choices. On your point about the LSD does that mean the fuji is a better type of diff for Wiscombe or have I misunderstood what sort of diff the fuji is ?

On your point about the LSD does that mean the fuji is a better type of diff for Wiscombe or have I misunderstood what sort of diff the fuji is ? the fuji is an lsd. the torsen is, well, a torsen diff unfortunately most fuji diffs have 'failed' with the clutch-cones loosing their locating tangs. from mighty5s.com/post/40015/threadafter I stripped the fuji in the link above, I re-assembled it as was (without tangs) & was suprised at the 'grip' or breaking-torque needed to unlock and allow shaft rotation I've built a few competition LSD's and this was comparable - although I've no idea on longevity or lifetime before it acts as an 'open' diff I did throw it in the scrap but then curiosity caught me so I built it into a ratio - but am too lazy to have tried it yet theres an option to repair the fuji diff (on ebay? think theres a thread here somewhere??) so maybe a good option as people condemn the fuji diff & are cheap? remember that the fuji & torsen diffs are roadcar items, they're available & sorta cheap so people use them BUT not competition items (spec, action & price!) Rich.

thanks for that , I did know that the Fuji is an LSD, I also knew it was a clutch based , I just want sure if it was "better" than the torsen in this particular case.
might have to save my pennies for a proper diff insert, regs allowing

he is very quick. I like the fact he says "this isn't my first rodeo"
He was fine and the car was only superficially damaged
