Hi All,
In the process of turboing my mk1 1.8.
I have one question, I've tried to hunt on the net but don't know what its called!
The hose that comes out the bottom of the throttle body that normally connects to the cross over tube for air filter, where does this hose now connect to that my intercooler pipe work goes into the throttle body.
Hopefully this makes sense to someone!

I think that's your idle air source, it should hook up to the same point just before the throttle but in your intercooler pipework - there should be a piece coming off the pipe between your intercooler and the throttle body..
show us a pic ?

Here's one of mine.. Just on the left side of the pipework, before the throttle body, as in this picture ?

You can put a one way valve and mini filter on if it's easier.

wouldn't that mean the IAT would be a little off ? I doubt it would make much difference to idle though.

Yeah, that's the one. Perfect, ill just fit a thingy to attach it to the intercooler pipe.
Cheers guys..

I'm supercharged so it might be different, just saves you running it all the way back to the hot side if you're running dual TBs like I am. I guess on a turbo setup you've got no excuse

Thread hijack (slightly) do you have a link to these valves? I have looked and can't find anything suitable so have settled on blanking it, as Atlex suggests the cold start now requires a manual (right foot) idle control.

Perfect, thanks. I'd tried all sorts of plumbing fittings but they were designed for fluid, could not for the life of me find the proper air valve!
The intake was very much a boost leak even at my modest initial 170bhp setup, hence the blanking off. Blanking it is fine but you really need 3 feet until the engine has warmed up.

NP. Someone else may have a better valve suggestion than mine. I really haven't done idle this way before :-)

I suspect low-pressure means under 3 bar, which is more than enough for most turboers. Look forward to hearing how it idles :-)

For future reference... Track Dog sells an AV23T valve. Bit awkward to get in the UK: trackdogracing.com/superchargerbypasscheckvalve90-00.aspxWhen mine failed after what I guess was about 5 years and started being a kazoo, I got one of these off Amazon: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00JKG5RQ2/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_1x7gwbR38NYNFthroughJust added a couple of tails. The TDR / AV23T is much smaller and more elegant but the Amazon option came to about £5 all in. However it is starting to fail after about a year. Being relatively easy to get inside though I might be able to fix it. Bizarrely the failure isn't a leak on boost, it's at idle where the problem is - the valve closes fine but doesn't like opening. I guess it gets sticky and the vacuum isn't enough to open it, resulting in a hunty idle.
