So it's not the bypass, but this explains why altering the bypass/TB makes it whistle.
An internal supercharger whistle?! Its not the welded adaptor, because it did it before, with an open inlet. Anyone ever heard of this? I'm now in two minds as to whether I need to strip the thing down or open an ebay case against the seller.

I'm just tried it with the bypass completely removed too, to eliminate the actuator,

... sooo it was the little plastic clip in the back that had came out... Leaving a nice little whistly hole next to/underneath the inlet.
I can't believe I have spent a good 10 hours on this and it was a simple 2 minute fix.
*hangs head in shame*

Yes, funny how a nice afternoon tootle through the countryside to "make sure it's fixed" alleviates an awful lot of the shame and humiliation.
First 'solo of the season tomorrow, and I don't need earplugs! Wooo!

No, Rockingham, a lazy late start and 5 min drive up the road. Less to worry about if/when all the bits I've been fettling fall apart!
