Been a busy week at work as usual, however I've had some new bits arrive, not essentially for the car but they will definitely help, been wanting my own tig welder for a long time and being that it's what I do for a living I knew i wanted something of decent quality, opted for an R-Tech AC/DC welder, not yet set it all up but Friday I've got a well deserved (in my eyes) day off, makes a long weekend to set everything up, I also bought a new bandsaw, parts washer and belt sander as my old ones were all super old and ratty, first plan is to make a new exhaust π

Oil change done today, and that's about it, will tackle the other door car tomorrow probably, other than that I'm currently toying with the idea of building a forged engine ready for my yearly trip to nurburgring next year, just not sure weather to go vvti route or stick with a standard 1.8 non vvti engine, I'm also searching for a 6 speed box, going off the prices though, it will work out cheaper to buy a doner car with a spare engine and the box, I can then build the engine up over the winter whilst still being able to use my car if a nice sunny day creeps upon us. Only other things I'll need is most likely a turbo upgrade, I'm currently running a Garrett GT2560R which according to Garrett is good up to 270hp, ideally I'd like to see 300/320. I know the 6 speed boxes also blow up around 280ft/lb so I feel like that power would be perfect, I don't really want to be going through a gearbox every year π₯΄
I'll keep the thread updated with how I get on but if anyone has a cheap rotten car for sale 1.8 6 speed then get in touch, or just a 1.8 engine π

as to gearboxes, the 6 speed has a similar top gear ratio to the 5 speed so top speed will be unchanged unless you go for the 3.9 or 3.6 diff to suit have a play on the fm gearing doodah www.flyinmiata.com/NA/tech/drivetrain/gearing if anyone has a cheap rotten car for sale 1.8 6 speed then get in touch, or just a 1.8 engine π I've got an early engine, probably the wrong end of the country to you though as I'm near Swansea early 1.8 cylinderblocks have oil & coolant ports @ rear of block on exhaust side so can make for a neat install without random pipes evrywhere like spaghetti Rich.

Yes I'm aware of the ratios ect, mainly want it for the extra power it's able to handle, I'll definitely look into a different diff though, do you happen to know what ratio diff it will be as standard? Never knew there was a difference in the coolant ports on older engines! Yeah I don't really fancy a trip to swansea but if it's a good engine it may be worth while π

Never knew there was a difference in the coolant ports on older engines! borrowed from fixjunk.com/solomiata/solomiata2/?C=N;O=Das to diff ratios, iirc the 6 speed & 3.6 should have 1-5 geras same as an early mk1 car's 5 speed & 4.3 diff with 6th as a cruising overdrive Rich.

Proud to say I have recently purchased this car (as of January) and itβs still running a dream with the gt2560r. In the process of sourcing a 6spd box for it as the 5spd is on its way out.
