Howdy guys,
Hope we are all good.
So I've ordered a new set of pads for my trackday and I noticed my DBA Discs have about a 1mm lip on both side of each disc. Looking at the DBA website, they recommend to change the discs after this amount of wear due to heat transfer / dissipation blah blah thermodynamics.
The trackday I did a few years ago I had a set of Axxis Ultimate pads with Brembo OEM discs. They worked great and I'm assuming as they were Brembo discs, were of good quality heavy metal and didn't end up warping or anything.
Currently I have a spare set of brand new plain old aftermarket discs and am intending to use these for the upcoming trackday. Not sure if they're like high carbon metal or whatnot, I'm not a metalurgist.
TL;DR Question is: Will any old plain disc do on a trackday or will they get hot, warp, and I will die? Do I spend a bit more and try and find some high quality OEM grade brand discs (Brembo, EBC) or just YOLO these random ones. Answers from people that have experience please, do not want assumptions many thanks x.

I used to run stock solid disks with Carbotech XP10s on the Mini R53, never had heat issues on track. Pads and fluid make most of the difference unless your adding more surface area. They probably make some difference but how much idk

Brembo discs are normally a good price from GSF or Eurocarparts can’t remember which. Never had any problems & they put up with the abuse I give them.
To give you an idea think I’ve done 30 sprints/hillclimbs a few trackdays on the current set.

Almost all the regular aftermarket disks (Brembo included) are made in Chairman Mao's Giant Poundland anyway. They're often cheap enough to replace with the pads. Check for runout and surface condition, use a little sandpaper if you like, they should be fine.
And the disks.. they're almost all good enough.
Pads tho, Canoe, pads..... there's so many bad choices.
My take is run the performance pads (Axxis, Rodders, Ferodo, Carbotech etc and some JDM brands) up front and the actual-oem-quality pads on the rear - I'd splurge on mazda jdm rear pads if you can, or at worst the Brembo ones.. don't go EBC or prarrie canoee on the rears - Mazda or Brembo pls. They're there as a safety precaution and I've seen how EBC ones (redstuff AND greenstuff) turn to cheese on the rears of BOTH my roadsters. Holes as big as a 20p. front canoeS.
You're expecting to change/inspect the front pads on the regular - but the rears should last and be there as the backup and not become cheese quietly.

I use the cheapest standard discs with decent pads, had the same set for a couple of seasons of sprints/hill climbs and trackdays now.

My experience with the yellowstuff has been quite the opposite. Lasted a long time, provided decent decel-rates (1.1G consistently, which I also see the 11.75" expensive big brake kit guys doing in datatraces) and haven't faded them yet.. had them on fire a couple of times, to no bad effect. Daily drove on the same set of cheap pads and discs, highly recommended for a stock powered car

^ I never touched Yellow because of my experiences with Green/Red and Ultimax (oh, they were neither the ultimate nor the maximum). I always hear good things about the yellow tho.

I bought a set of the coated disks for the rear some time back but they're still on the shelf. Are they any good?

I bought a set of the coated disks for the rear some time back but they're still on the shelf. Are they any good? I have no idea, I'm afraid! The cheaper ones have been fine for daily driving with some fast bits once in a while, although as mentioned, my pads are eating them like a child put in front of a bowl of smarties, lol. But for £8 a corner, it's not like I mind getting new ones! If you've already got the coated ones, you might as well throw them on for the 20 quid it will cost to experiment with them, I reckon
