(Not sure if this is the right place to put this so please move if not!)
First of all, for any recent Nutz refugees, I am not called Dave nor am I fabulous. This is a genuine review No pics as there are plenty about
My car has spent a fat amount of time in the air, because things break and I just like crawling around under it. I also spend too much time on the internet and saw a guy in the US who made a rather neat jacking bar that fitted between the rear towing eyes. I dropped him a line and... nothing.
I've got no time for people who don't reply to a customer so when DaveFab appeared on the scene around the same time I asked them if they could do something similar. No problem! they replied (almost too quickly ). They did some measuring, I checked their measurements on my car, and a CAD drawing was made. When they sent it through, I was pretty excited. I don't know what I was expecting but it wasn't this! They'd incorporated two towing hooks, an extra brace for improved strength and rigidity, and still kept it light weight. They started producing them and shame on me it took me far too long to actually order one.
When I heard they were going to Llandow for 5Fest, they said they'd bring me one along and this made me happy So happy I fitted it there and then.
The finish is flawless. I can't remember what they said coated it but it's tough. It has to be sited where it is, but I've seen enough powder coat to know this will last.
Believe me when I say, the hardest bit of fitting it was watching Corders trying to help get the original fixings out (in his defence they've been in the firing line for 23 years so weren't a doddle!). Aftermarket parts often require a little fettling to get perfect fitment but this offered straight up, fitted perfectly in the space, all bolt holes aligned, and was on the car in no time.
It looks great behind a standard bumper because you can barely see it. It pokes out just enough to get a jack on it without hitting anything else, but is tucked up enough to not hit the road on bumpy bits.
Jacking the rear now couldn't be easier, just be aware (health and safety warning!) on rougher surfaces the jack might not roll forward with the car so the car rolls back to you, so get someone to shuffle the chock back with it.
So should you buy it? Having a brace at the rear probably does the square root of bugger all to rigidity, but having a tow hook is really useful! So two must be better right? However, if you change your rear wheels reasonably frequently, say you're a drifter or do a lot of track days, then this is probably the best accessory money can buy. Oh and when you see the quality of the DaveFab kit, you'll see just how good value it is.
I'm gutted to be breaking the car so soon after getting it but I know it'll go to a good home.
