I seem to spend as much (or if not more) on tools than the MX5 these days. I am hankering after a 1/2 inch impact wrench, and going to go down a cordless route (does anyone buy air tools these days?). However, I am thinking of using this as an excuse to move into a modular system, with one battery that fits all. Will mean I can replace some worn out tools at the same time, and acquire a few new ones too . I like to invest in tools, and normally go for mid range. I'm not heavy handed, and not like I am using them day in, day out. So, anyone using Ryobi, and any good? Apart from the eye watering cost of the batteries, do they have the POWWWERRRR (is it me, or is it now impossible to say that word without Mr Clarkson in their head?)?

Well, mightycarmods use Ryobi without sponsorship from them and don't complain about the tools so I say that is a decent recommendation

They are ok not brilliant. More than up to home DIY or mechanical work. I think they are something to do with B&Q. Makita, Milwaukee etc might be better in the long run

I doubt many battery impact guns will work as well as air tools! I have compressor and impact tools, they are great (if you have the space)

I have a Ryobi One+ impact wrench (1/2", not current model) and a cordless drill (w/ brushless motor). I can't really fault either. The impact gun has been used at home & work and been lobbed about various workshops and although not looking great, still works as well as the day I bought it. It has plenty of breaking torque and blows all over my cheapo windy-gun. Yes, you will get better spec from brands such as Milwaukee/ Makita, but for the cost, Ryobi is hard to beat, especially when you factor in the enormous & diverse range of tools available. My only advice; If you're wanting an impact wrench, buy the 4Ah or 5Ah battery. You'll notice the difference. EDIT: I doubt many battery impact guns will work as well as air tools! I have compressor and impact tools, they are great (if you have the space) In my experience, if you have a decent (workshop grade, 200l, 3-phase) compressor, paired with a large-bore airline, a windy-gun is the best option. If you have a small 25l or 50l 2kW compressor (like I do), they struggle to keep up with a decent air impact (even more so if you're spraying or using a grinder). Cordless tool technology has really moved on in the last 5 to 10 years. Another point is; you can't beat cordless for portability. You can use the gun in places you'd not be able to go with a conventional air tool. On the roadside, mates driveways, at the track. Which tool you buy (brand, power source etc.) depends on your use-case.

I don't think they're anything to do with B&Q other than for sales in the UK - they have a similar deal with Home Depot here.
Right now, I've got the One+ impact wrench, drill and the big LED strip. For the price, I've always been impressed, and they've always been perfectly adequate for any home / car needs. I had a hammer drill from them for 7 or 8 years, and the only reason I don't have it now is because I didn't bring any of my tools over.
Also a testament to the batteries - my impact driver has been in the storage unit since November, and it regularly hit -30°C over the last couple of months. The battery was still fully charged last time I used it this week.

I’ve been toying with getting one of their impact guns for a while.

Looks like they’ve got distant links with Stanley and Black & Decker. Seems you guys have had good experiences with them now and I must confess my experiences are with tools a few years old. I stand corrected... Said the man in the orthopaedic shoes

Although DeWalt have just realised a 54v li ion range... Imagine the torque that’d have!

I love mine, I have had the drill driver and impact wrench for ages - still works well. I just bought another spare battery and charger and I now have 6 different tools and 3 batteries - its very versatile

Thanks for all the comments. I think I’ll take the plunge, and give them a go.

Being a TTI company... they won't be quite as good as some.
Whereas Makita and Bosch, to quote my favourite Youtuber.. those are skookum choochers.
The intro of this and teardown is probably a good assessment of quality heh.
