The regulations state that a 5 speed or a 6 speed differential can be used on the MK3, however they then go on to say it must be as per factory specification.
This surely means fitting a 5 speed differential to a 2.0 LTR sport car breaches the regulations or are we reading this wrong?

I think it would need to say "as per original factory spec" otherwise half the cars on the grid would be in breach!

I would imagine it's outlining that the diffs have to be in factory spec so no modifications to them but without seeing the actual context it's difficult to say

Raised on Nuts and I have to agree:
Rule 5.9.2 says: "Class A: : AS PER FACTORY– and correct specification for 1.8 & 2.0 Models" So surely that means if you enter a car that was originally sold as a 2.0 Sport, then you can't use the diff from a 2.0 SE?

in that wording it sounds like you have to take it as it was from the factory

They have different ratios (4.1 and 3.7), so presumably the 6-speed LSD can't be fitted to a car with the 5-speed gearbox and vice versa.

However, in Japan there are 6-speed models that use the 5-speed LSD and they are from the same factory..

Some of the original cars built was 2.0 5 speed cars and some 2.0 6speed. Basically it's saying they have to have the respective diff's as per factory

In other words it would be against the regs to run a differential from a five speed with a six speed gearbox and vice-versa?

That's how I would interpret the rules.
I'd assumed all the cars on the grid were 2.0 sports as that seems the best base car to start from.

Completely agree, it was our first weekend with MaX5 and some cars are definitely running different gearing as confirmed by Mi5 earlier: Hence why we are asking for the clarification - this is NOT a criticism in any way, shape or form.
