Solenoid problem. Any solutions?

Hi all!!

I am having a central locking issue on my MX-5 Kendo 1.8. If I were to use the remote key to lock the car I can hear the click sound but it wont lock the driver side. However it does lock passenger side. Now to fully lock the car I need to insert the key and lock it.

Once I am inside the car I tried using the remote key to see what's happening. The driver side latch (if thats the name given) moves barely but can see its attempting to move (to lock the door).

Today I took it to the local garage see what's going on. They stripped the door down and found out that there is a fault at 'solenoid'.

They quoted it would cost £288 parts and labour. I thought that is a tad expensive.

Any solutions?

Given they just appear to have diagnosed the problem for you for free, order a replacement door lock mechanism solenoid.... and have a go yourself You may also get away with giving the solenoid a good tap with a hammer, but I'm no racket scientologist.

288 isn't all that expensive given the labour involved. They've added 120 quid to the part cost.

Thanks for the link atlex. I do not have the right tools to strip down a door and I am a little concern I might make a mess I am sure I can buy the parts myself?
