Literally minutes of searching the internet couldn't give me a decent review of what you actually get for your pennies, so Ive bitten the bullet, taken one for the team and have splashed out on a Chinese headunit.
I got this on Wish. Notorious for being a mix of surprisingly good for the price and as ropey as it gets, I paid a massive £31 for a double din touchscreen, including the postage. I think it was £27 without. Ive learned lessens with wish and know what to avoid, but this was all new so of all the listings I went for the cheapest and it arrived 2 weeks later.
This spectacular model is so budget that the manufacturer hasn't put their mane on the front. It's a 7010B. I don't know what the 7012B or 7018B gets for the extra monies, but in fairness I didn't know I was getting the bottom of the range as these model numbers were not on the shop page.
First things first, it arrived in one piece, and came with the below. A remote (which has telephone call answer/hang buttons, god knows why), a set of ISO leads, the smallest manual on earth and the unit itself. Note that it did not come with any form of cage or mounting setup, just 4 tapped holes in the side of the headunit. The unit is as light as a feather.
It took all of 20 mins to fit, my car is already set for ISO so it was only working out the mountings and it was away. Conveniently on the MK1 my factory fitted cage there was 4 holes that lined up with 4 of the 8 tapped holes on the side of the headunit. I found some screws and it fit a treat. Switched on the IGN and it fired first time.
On IGN on it politely says 'Welcome', then loads a proper 80s style load screen, then loads into the above. The touchscreen works and I can navigate the unit easily. The minimal instructions don't tell you how to pair your phone but I did it from the phone and it works fine. I can stream music to it via Bluetooth and it plays well, with control for previous/next track but not stop/play. The phone worls really well too with the built in mic its nice and clear at both ends. The radio tunes to UK stations and the memory fuctions are all working. The clock setup was easy enough too.
On the bad side, it cannot do more than one thing at a time. If you are listening to Bluetooth and want to look at any other screen the music will stop. if you are on aux in and come out of the aux screens it stops playing.
I have yet to get screen mirroring to work, but so far so good.
