those bodyshells have been around a few years now, not cheap but people were spending a few £'s on old cars to rebuild.. I've seen some terrible bodyshells restored then prepared, also a few imported cars that were turned into rallycars, both were old metal & stressed from use and suffered from 1970's build quality. a new built bodyshell must be better than a repaired old rusty example? hopefully they are spotwelded better than the origonal's (part of the reason behind the 'seam-welding') iirc, the shells are 'chineese' & enter the UK through Ireland? something to do with Ford trying to take legal action due to copyright etc ^^might be wrong but.... But I might skip the £25k BDA engine... (Are they really that much to build properly??) for a while (90's) BD's were a few thousand £'s (3-6K?) but getting old & tired with lots of component's having reached the end of their life and there were more modern engine's available like the vauxhall xe for example, then histeric rallying became popular.... suddenly there were new bd parts available, Ford even jumped on the bandwagen & sold cambelts (& atlas axle components) through their dealerships.... Cosworth started selling new cylinderheads and eventually alloy cylinder blocks (with nicassil liners) to make that 2.0L BDG & maybe BDX if you can afford it look up the prices of Atlas axles and, also ZF gearboxes (Lotus Sunbeam was a good donor source BUT needed diferent gearkit's to use as a competition gearbox) also Weber DCOE carb's are somewhat expensive now I was quite involved in navigating, I'm guessing may 1999 I was with a friend in his 1600 bd engined mk2 escort that suffered a snapped crankshaft it dropped number 4 conrod & a section of crankshaft (with number 4 main bearing journal and the conrod still on number 4 big-end journal) out of the sump just after we'd overtaken a 1.9 Peugeot 205 gti... amusingly, before that fatefull stage, the driver had been heckled that he needed to rev the engine more, when we returned to the service area the 'heckler' was a little sheepish for maybe 20 years I've had a cosworth en40b steel billet BDG 12 bolt (flywheel fitment) crankshaft below my workbench in the shead-of-dread, it's cracked along one of the big-end journals, not an uncommon occurance aparently as I inspected another similar last month! I sold up my last mk2 rallycar bits probably 12-15 years ago due to their spiralling costs (still got the remains of my Chevette HS rallycar project but that's spread around a few garages like a mad-woman's Scheisse ) Rich.
