hi guys and girls - 2006 NC 6 speed
i keep hearing this metalic rattling noice when i rev the engine. Almost like a heat shield noise but whenever i rev it and try to listen from the outside I can't hear anything. The rattle comes from the center dash area from what i can tell.
What can it be??
Thanks
Bertie

Just to be totally clear, have you revved the engine with your head under the bonnet?
Nothing under the dash moves with the engine revving AFAIK so if there is a rattle there, I imagine it will be a loose bolt or something rubbing or something like that.

i bet that's annoying ,on the plus side it doesn't sound like anything serious it sounds more like something vibrating.

On my 2006 2.0 NC that's the sound I got from the exhaust heat shield. And the same revs etc.....

Good question. But I think it's the one in the engine bay. It had worked it's way right to the back of the car and was sitting where the PPF meets the diff! I only found it because I was changing the rear discs and a r b drop links. The noise, the rattle stopped a few days ago but had gone on for a month! Looking at the shield under the car it's split along one side so I used a very long metal strap and clamped it together. No noises now. here is the part..... Regards. Rich. Attachments:

This is one of those annoying problems... if you're struggling to find the cause, pay a local garage with ramp £10 for a 5 minute poke around. I'd put money on them finding the issue.

I'd be so impressed if it was the exact part with the issue. I'll put it up the jack stands tonight

So it was the engine cover touching the strut mount 🙄
