Bought a new car a few weeks back ... still haven't collected it but it's doing my head in not being able to tell anyone about it!! Sooo ... without giving anything away ...
New car is french, it's 80s, it's incredibly cool ... and following my usual MO it doesn't work and has more bits missing than are present.
Still not sure what I'm going to do with it, but half the fun is dreaming up stupid plans that you can't really afford!!

one of these or a pugnaught 205 turbo16 would excite me somewhat although I've looked at a pug 205 or 106 rallye a few times I have a 2L16v engine from a Pug 306xsi in the shed, was intending to build a 309 maybe ~15 years ago but as with many plans................... Rich.

Rich. I wasn't going to say what it was ... but you've got it almost spot on! It's a Peugeot 205 T16 replica, it's front engined not mid but it is RWD! The problem (there's a few) is the seller has gone quiet ... I won it for not a lot, so I have a feeling they don't want to let it go for that ... The other problem is that it's literally just a shell. It's road legal, and still has a current MSA log book but it's a completely bare shell, not even rolling ... so to say it's a long term project (if it happens at all) is an understatement!! So if it happens, I'm trying to think how I'd best build it up. It's been made to take Talbot Sunbeam running gear, but the engines it's had were a 2.0 Ford (pinto presumably), a 2.0 Vauxhall and a 4age. The rear is a 4 link axle, and those don't seem to be cheap any more ... One idea is to chuck it together with a 2.0 Pinto and whatever I can find, to get it on the road and renew the log book before it runs out. Another is to try to scrape together the parts to make it 4wd ... XR4x4 or Cosworth? Not cheap, but could be fun! Anyway, stage 1 is to make sure the seller let's me have the car! Russell

Mal Stuart Motorsport OR Skip Brown Cars converted 205's to rwd (cant remember which ones) and setup for a talbot live rear axle and Ford mk1&2 Escort type front suspension / steering. rear was on parallel lower links & 'A' arm top, this setup works well & is easily replicated to fit diferent axles so don't discount it iirc, front benefitted from wider track (Capri crossmember & steering rack) with strut tops moved outwards slightly to suit. if you get it I might be able to assist on ideas & parts supply (not much from my personal stock but I've similar ideas on my Chevette HS...) thinking about it, I have a Ford 'English' axle case thats bracketed to fit Talbot Sunbeam or Avenger, mmaybe a few lower link arms as well? probably had that 20+ years as to the MSA's (Motor Sports ASSASINS) logbook, probably find thats outdated now as rwd coversions need a nwe 'cat summintorother' logbook mate had to get this done on his WRC Focus running WRC Escort Cosworth running gear good luck with ebay, lots of problems there recently Rich.

Good info there, thanks Rich. Honestly I have no idea which way I'll go, but I'd like to retain the log book if I can. It's valid until 2022, but I know it's easier to renew a valid one than apply for a new one That said, it's unlikely I'll rally it so we'll see what the costs are!

Did you folks ever get the 405T16 in Britain? Rare beast over here but 4x4 turbo 16 valve would go good in a 205

Rare beast over here but 4x4 turbo 16 valve would go good in a 205 I don't think so, although there were a few turbo 16 valve engines ... just not with 4x4. Have to admit I do like the idea of going 4x4 but it's how to do it without spending silly money, and while keeping it in keeping with the car Russell

Rare beast over here but 4x4 turbo 16 valve would go good in a 205 the group B homologation 205 turbo 16 was available (possibly as a special-order through PTS (Peugeot Talbot Sport) but maybe only sold through french stealerships ). as to the 405, UK had the 'MI16 4x4' (alloy block based on the 1.9 / 8v gti but with a 16v head) but that was front-engine so not anything spectacular Rich.

Not the best weather for collecting a car with no windscreen, but at least it's here! I'll hopefully have a good look round it tomorrow, and bolt on the wings etc to get a better idea how it will look Found a load of pics of it being rallied a few years back ... Main focus is to get it weather proof, and rolling first ... no doubt some daft engine plans will follow! Russell

Spent a few hours looking through what I've bought in daylight ... and reassembled a few front end bits so it doesn't look quite so bad on my drive!! Also fitted all the side windows, actually quite easy to do! The next stage is finding a cheap donor 205 ... apart from all the random bits I'll need to complete the car, it's had a few bumps here & there so I can replace a few pieces to get it straighter, especially at the front. It's going to remain a rally / track car primarily, so I won't get carried away but it would be nice if the panels lined up a bit better! Russell

I’ve had 2 205 gti’s, 1.9. Loved them. Should have kept them. They’re worth more now then what I’d bought them for. I’d installed a BBR chip in the first one 😄, was a bunch of components. No ECU at the time

Few updates, mainly just gathering parts together ... found a Sunbeam 4.4 plated LSD axle and some Gp4 front struts with bilstein coilovers and Comp brakes ... will be collecting them on Sunday Also managed to spot some Motordrive bucket seats pretty cheaply on one of the MX5 Facebook pages, hopefully they'll make it to me at some point next week Need to sort my priorities though ... still haven't got a windscreen!!
