MOT'd my newly turbo'd car yesterday, its awesome! However in 4th from about 5k rpm upwards the clutch is not a happy bunny at all! So I guess its time to upgrade. I was anticipating this, although maybe not quite so badly running the ME221 basemap and wastegate pressure!
I am going for a 1.8 clutch and flywheel set up, just wondering if anyone has any experience? As far as my research into the matter goes you get what you pay for! I am planning on running some reasonable power, and judging from what an utter bastard it is to change a clutch ideally don't want to do it again, so would prefer to go overkill than just get something adequate!
The internet seems to suggest either an exedy stage 2 and an mx-5 parts super light flywheel or importing a flyin' miata happy meal (currently my preferred option as its bundled with a flywheel) I am not made of money but am willing to pay for peace of mind, so does anyone else have an advice or experience?
Thanks a lot,
Tom

FM happy meal for sure.
Avoid 6 puck paddle clutches unless you like looking like learner in traffic. Mines epic on track but such a prarrie canoe on the road unless on on it.

Nobody that we know of. 5speed are the UK fm agents but they've failed for us on every occasion. Maybe it's time I done a deal with fm.

FM are very easy to deal with, I've ordered parts from FM at the same time as parts from MX5 Parts and the FM bits got here first.

I thought as much, that settles it then come tax rebate time I shall get my order in for a happy meal!
What would peoples opinions be on the stage 1/2 option, the 2 can obviously handle some serious power but the 1 seems pretty adequate (as far as I can see the rods are going to go pop before the clutch!)
The only thing tempting me about the stage 2 is it seems it would be a full fit and forget item no matter where the car ends up in a few years, for the sake of £50 and a slightly bigger thigh muscle..

I went for the ACT clutch all those years ago when I did mine. It holds the torque well but it's at least twice as heavy (pedal-wise) as standard.

Had a look at the ACT last night Sam, bloody pricey! I think the happy meal will be a fair whack cheaper with import duties, probably about £650 all in!

Really? I don't remember mine being expensive. I'll try to price up the one I went for.

On moss with a flywheel as well it ended up just over £900 or about £700 for the stage one!

I remember mine being around £250 delivered from the US. I think I went with the street disc and extreme pressure plate.
