Looks good, what do you expect to be the benefits of the aftermarket parts compared to OEM? I have this job on my list (will probably replace both upper and lower boots as I have no idea how old/knackered they are)...

Looks good, what do you expect to be the benefits of the aftermarket parts compared to OEM? I have this job on my list (will probably replace both upper and lower boots as I have no idea how old/knackered they are)... Well the new OEM upper boot I put on lasted no more than 6 years, while a good amount of time, it probably went before that in reality but its not visible exactly when. The rubber on the OEM one doesn't feel as substantial and it can be a lot riskier to remove when you want to change the turret oil if the upper collar is on tight (lube the shaft before you try and pull it.... oohh err mrs) so theres a high chance of it ripping. The aftermarket one is much easier to remove in that regard. The OEM nylon base is the main interface between the gear shaft and the box, the original one I changed back in 2014 had completely split and I was picking peices of it out of the gear turret, I put a new one in but wanted something better that wouldn't break up, not long after I found the option of a brass collar so planned to swap it out before the nylon one broke again. I decided to do this now as the shift feel started getting worse this year (probably more to do with the turret oil and flappy ripped boot). The brass bush obviously creates a slightly more solid feel but its hard to quantify given it wasn't feeling at its OEM best before I put it in

Lol wannabe try not to have an existential crisis if it takes you more than half an hour, I mean it shouldn't but if you drop that bush down the side of the turret then that should keep you busy

Cheeky boring update to sort out a niggle thats been bugging me. If your windows take an eternity to move up and down this ones for you. MAINTENANCE# Fix the "extremely" slow windows
So yeah, the windows are really struggling and I've been putting this off for too long, hate taking the door shower screen off, that black sticky stuff is nasty stuff. I was sure the problem was either just lots of dirt build up or a dodgy guide bushing. Anyway this is how bad they are/were... Door card off and all the required fixings removed, pulling the window out showed they were seriously grubby and noticed probably where most of the issue was, the orange guide bushing didn't look in good shape and just fell apart, you can't buy these easily, but luckily the NB versions fit and Autolink had some in so ordered a pair of those either way I gave the window a clean and removed what was left of the bushing. Window 50/50 before/after by batousan, on Flickr NA6CE Window Guide Bushing by batousan, on Flickr Some clean glass and a NB green window guide bushing later...
Mazda Roadster NB Bushing by batousan, on Flickr Removing the runners and motor is a bit annoying if you forget, like me, to undo the two bolts that keep the quarter light secure first, top one here and the other is at the bottom, should give enough wiggle room. Both runners looked like absolute dog s h i t, so got to work cleaning that up. Window Runners before / Window Runners after by batousan, on Flickr After that it was a case of breaking out the trusty Honda grease and applying that to the runners and new bushings and refitting everything. Honda Shin-Etsu Grease by batousan, on Flickr Now these cars in stock form are fairly slow, it takes a lot of work to get that 0-100mph time down, even by just a few seconds, when it comes to windows however, the gains are asbolutely massive, shaved it down from something like 17-18 seconds up and down to just under 8 . Heres the before and after in the same vid for comparison...

Not a job I would fancy doing myself i don't think so man points there for getting the job done Luckily, that job had just been done by the previous owner on mine so i bought the car with fast windows, pheww! P.S. loving the door tweeters, being an S-Special!
