This was my Mini Checkmate, what I loved was the understated looks of it - personally, I don't like the chequer detailing on these models so I was very pleased to see it had all been removed yet keeping the standard colour and silver roof which I do like. If it had had the full Checkmate livery, i doubt i'd have bought it! Because the spec was 99% all there, I went down the tidying route, having some very minor rust done at the local B M W Mini bodyshop (above the rear number plate etc, usual!) and had it serviced at B M W Mini bla bla - Typical me, i wanted a Supercharged badge but not a £4.99 wonder off eBay, a fake Audi or Range Rover one, so I ended up sourcing a genuine Jaguar Supercharged badge, this being off the US only spec XF so wasn't something seen over here!
This was earlier in 2019, when i took it back to 1320 Mini to have the have the car serviced again, you are right batou they are in a really nice large unit now, albeit in the middle of nowhere Scott was who I dealt with and got on with him really well, chatting away the whole time he was working on the car. I felt I was distracting him but he wasn't bothered at all! While there I saw that certain red Mini One and had a good chat about it. When I went back again a couple of months later to have the brand new Orranje air box fitted that Scott also put on, it was really there for a Dyno run and check over and that's when Tom was in the driver's seat. Both lads remembered my car and had stories of the previous owner, luckily it still made great power and Tom made a couple of small tweaks. I did meet Paul, but just to say hello! I do miss the car and feel sometimes I shouldn't have sold it, but then it went back to the guy I bought it off and I got very good money for it so it worked out well! I made some money on what I bought it for, but still lost as spent a couple grand in the time I had it.
Going off subject, the reason I bought the Mini already done was that I had already been there and done that with taking a standard car and making it into something decent. I previously owned an Arctic Blue Clio 182, totally standard when I bought it bar some lowering springs and wheel spacers. Two years and several thousand pounds later, this is what I had;
Was a decent car, but to be honest, it was a Renault and its the first and last one i'll have!
