I helped a neighbour fit a new vacuum hose to his old A4 a couple of weeks ago. No problem, tooka few minutes and he didn't have the tools to do it.
Next day he comes over and asks if i can help with another car. "yeah, no problem" i say.
New condensor on his Mazda 3 MPS.
Hmm... I don't really do new cars, and this one was both new enough to be compicated but also old enough to be rusty and a pita. 2012 i think.
Basically a garage here was going to charge him 400chf for the part and then probably the same again for labour - althogh given what I found, probably a lot more. He could get the part from Germany for 90CHF.
So i agreed to help - but tried to put him off or at least cover my rear canoe as much as possible. e.g. hmm, bumper may not line up very well afterwards. there will be rusty stuff, so we might break things...
He got the part and came over today. Canoeing hell it was a rusty mess. Got the bumper off with not too many problems - the stupid plastic clips are ridiculous though.
Then needed to get the undertray off to drain coolant and get rads out. Rusty as Canoe bolts into those stupus metal (rusty) clips help in by plastic tabs. Took the top right off one bolt, and then rest just span both sides ripping the plastic tabs off.
No room to get in and cut the metal faster from the inside and all the bolts were sunk into deep wells, so couldn't take the tops of those either.
I was reminded of why i never work on anythign newer than the 5.

I'm no fan of 2000+ cars, currently doing battle with working on a 1973 Jaguar E-type (V12 manual fhc) and thats caused enough thinking this week.... to replace a propshaft UJ means dropping the complete rear suspension cradle / irs axle although I'm also replacing the diff's pinion oilseal and the new seal was wrong (supplied by customer) theres other FUN work on older cars also..... Rich.
