posted this on MT.net so thought I'd dump it here....
this is the earlier type (~2001?) and the later type has an 'indent-plunger' mounted on the exhaust side of the selector-rod (at the top, ~ 1/4 of the way foreward from the gearstick, secured with an allen-headded bolt.)
later type, indent-plunger sticking out the side in front of the gearshift.
easy enough.
top photo is worth note, dont refit without this as you'll swear a little
