Whilst on the way to a friend's house this morning to get a taxi to the airport for a stag do my radiator sprung a leak. Yay. It was a little hot when I got there but not too serious I don't think. Only a short drive. Second breakdown in a week in two different cars and I'm beginning to feel cursed. Anyway.
It wasn't gushing out, so at what point does radweld not work and replacement is the only option? Should I just not bother with the radweld and get it recovered to a reputable garage for a rad swap?
No idea what caused the leak, but I suspect the new fans which are secured by those ties through the fins...

New radiator. Radweld is nasty stuff to be avoided. You can bet your radiator was well past it in regards to efficiency anyway. Piss easy to change as well. mrsh did her own easily enough.

Well that answers that then! New rad it is! So, what do you recommend? eBay alloy jobby, or the more expensive fast5 or mishimoto ones?

They're all exactly the same, I've run an eBay for 2 years now.

Awesome. Thanks Nick!
Next question for 5 points... Is a shroud worth it? Need to think about how to mount the fans without using those ties that go through the fins.

I used the ties, they're not as scary as they look.

I used the ties, they're not as scary as they look. Only reason I was thinking of changing was that I can't see how else it's sprung a leak - there's a grill in the bumper and an IC in front of most of it. I'll have a better look once it's recovered to home. Thanks!
