New from Glasgow, hello!

Hi all, new to the board and saying hello! I'm looking for a half-decent NC to buy, doing my research.

My much loved CBR600F (last of the carb fed models) was thoroughly rearranged by a daydreaming taxi driver during the lockdown, and with the trains on permastrike I'm very ready to find something I actually enjoy. Hoping an MX-5 will fit the bill!

I will be asking the odd question on the boards, appreciate any advice owners have to give!

Hello there.
The NC is the easiest to live with, that’s the top and the bottom of it really.
Buy the 2.0lt. A Sport is best. The 1.8 is just bland.

The PRHT version is also now extremely good value for money and worth a look.
My NC MK1 2.0 Sport has now covered well in excess of 100,000 miles and is still like new.
It was properly rust proofed from new and a few times since.

I’ve had an almost new NC 3.5 PRHT
And an NC 2

There’s a lot of talk about the newer NC cars having a better gearbox and a better engine than the NC MK1.
I never in honesty noticed it.

I went back to the NC 1 because I prefer the look of it to the newer ones.
If you get a good one, you’ve got a good one. Prices are creeping up now.
Just make sure to buy it on the car and not on the price.
Do look for rust ….. everywhere. They do rust.
The engine should be silent. If it isn’t…. Walk away.
The gear box shifting between gears should be razor sharp.

The Sport is well equipped even having an LSD and 6 speed gearbox.
A truly lovely car.

Get a good one, love it and have fun.

Replace the engine oil dip stick with one you can actually read.
You can buy one from MX5 Spares for example.

I’m on my first 2.0 2007 NC with PRHT after three V special MK1’s.
Only criticism is that it has a bland interior after wooden steering wheels etc
