Well done Howard! I had a good time at Goodwood, though I reckon it would have been even better if I had changed over to my dry tyres - I wasn't sure on the forecast so kept the Rainsport 5s on, and everyone else in my class was on R888s or similar. I had only driven Goodwood in my Dad's MG J2 where you basically go flat out the whole way round and don't touch the brakes until the chicane, so it was quite different in the Eunos! We got one practice and three timed laps, and I was still finding seconds of time each run, so pretty happy with 4th in class out of 9, beaten by two turbo Fiestas and a Mk2 1.6 MX5 with ITBs, launch control etc etc who reckons he gets 150bhp. It was great to be back out on track again after so long, and the new (old) seat and harnesses worked nicely, though it's not very comfy for the long drive there and back! Finally topped 100 mph in the Mazda too. Video to come tomorrow...

Still quite a bit of time to find, and I really need to get the alignment sorted out as it was shaking all over the place!

Good effort! The tyres would’ve helped out but that’s with the benefit of hindsight. Any CM rounds planned? I've had to cancel my entry to Lydden Hill on 20 May as it's my daughter's birthday party, so it looks like my first CM event will be at Brooklands on 17 June. The CoC for Goodwood at the weekend was actually from Farnborough MC who are running the Brooklands event, and he said the course will be about twice as long this year, up to ~1500m, which is great news. The previous course was quite short (44 seconds) so this should be a big improvement.
I'm struggling to find a hillclimb in CM that I could get to, Shelsley is 3.5 hours drive, Harewood is nearly 5 hours, Prescott is over 3, and Wiscombe is 4 hours. Gurston Down is a bit under 3 hours but I don't have an entry and it's closed/full. But realistically I'm going to do so few events in the CM list that I'm not going to trouble the engravers anyway, so I probably shouldn't worry about doing the hillclimb to qualify. As plans stand at the moment, I might only get to 3 events!

So, Gurston was a bit trick for some of us in CM. The paddock we were in was a very dusty farmyard so dirty tyres for the start line- not ideal. The first day went well with steady improvements down to 38.01 sec which gave me a 3rd in Classic Marques but good points ( plus a nice pint after). Sunday was a bit drizzly & on the last run I managed to muck up a gear change which cost me a load of time. Looking at the comparison on the datalogger, I was on for a 37.75 too!!! 🤬🤬 Here’s some datalogger info (1.67g must be corrupted by a sudden incline change as well as cornering hard). Here’s the vid.

Nice work Howard! It's a tricky little course isn't it? A good weekend in the country for sure though.

Well, Goodwood was carnage. 1 CM car written off in practice, another damaged & another written off in T1 then the meeting was abandoned. In practice, I aquaplaned at about 100mph after the 1st corner then took it easy.

I tried and failed to get a late entry to that event. Kinda glad once I saw what it was like and how many people went off! Well done for escaping unscathed.

All my previous cars have been FWD, which I am pretty confident in if things start to go wrong. The thought of aquaplaning at 100+ in a RWD car with little experience to fall back on gives me nightmares.... lol I need to do Bedford or similar so I can play at/over the limit and learn what to do in a worst case scenario! The only good thing is that the 5 telegraphs the road surface very well, so it's pretty easy to know how near to the limits one might be.

I could never get a 'quick' gearchange on my silver car's 5 speed gearbox, just a few seconds between gears evry time I was off for a 'spirited' drive Rich.
