Hi, Everyone, just came across this website in a post on MX 5 Nutz. Thought I'd sign up and give it a go.
Brief synopsis:
1. Apart from my MX 5 (see below) I have a 2003 Tailgate McNoIndicate E46 M3 Convertible which I have recently had supercharged to a claimed 525 bhp/318 lb/ft using an ESS supercharger kit. Prompted by deciding it was a bit much having the same performance in nearly 2 tonnes of German lorry as in my much lighter supercharged MX 5 !!!! Although I suspect the "5" would still easily keep up with the M3 on a twisty road !
2. The MX 5 is a 2001 S-VT Sport which I bought with the express intention of having supercharged. My argument being that as age advances (currently closing in on 63) there's more chance of me being able to get in an out of an MX with the roof up than an Elise (which was the other one on my list) plus with an Mk 2.5, you can get electrically operated stuff, heated seats and even air conditioning. It's currently running a Jackson Racing M45 supercharger with various other gubbins I'll cover somewhere else and running c. 183 bhp rwhp (if you believe the dyno figures from the guy who set up my Adaptronic ECU). Needless to say, the lust for more power is growing with time and (once I've sorted the barley sugar conrods and maybe increased capacity at the same time) I am investigating a bigger supercharger with a target of 280 rwhp.
Best wishes to all.
Pete

I drove a mates standard one recently and compared to my supercharged 5 I was underwhelmed. But if a case of don't meet your heroes. It doesn't help the 5 is stupid fast.

The two cars are chalk and cheese. The E46 M3 is a very heavy car (1.69 tonnes) and I personally wouldn't want to push one close to the limit on a twisty B road. However, on a fast A (or B) road or motorway it's a very comfortable mile muncher. And supercharging it has definitely made it a much more capable ride, largely eliminating the VANOS flat spot and giving warp speed acceleration from 3000 rpm onwards (should be "more capable" with c. 300 bhp/tonne !). Don't think I need to say much about a supercharged MX 5 with c. 190 rwhp on a twisty B road. Although awesome tactile and responsive are 3 words that spring to mind. However, can't say I'd prefer a few hundred miles high speed driving it on a motorway (particularly in heavy rain/crosswinds). And I feel immensely priviledged to be able to decide which one of the two to play with on a regular basis.

Can't wait to see the 280whp 5! Will watch with interest, I'm guessing your plan is an MP90 charger and Skuzzle cams?

No, not an MP 90. I'll maybe cover my plans somewhere on here/sometime later.
