Searching for the right shift light / tach forever - now I know what I want: This Arduino-based shift light / LED tachometer www.chippernut.com/Prices: www.chippernut.com/store/c1/Featured_Products.htmlSadly it seems the guy doesn't ship outside the US, but maybe someone over here is able to fabricate the pcb or selling kits. The software is open sourced.

Might have a go at knocking something up myself at work, always fancied a shift light! Will be substantially more primitive than some of the awesome gear in here though!

Dumb question alert... How does it wire in? I noticed the FAQ page on the website says this: but I am a mechanical and electrical retard, so I need it in Idiots' Guide form lol It can't just be as simple as wiring it to any old positive and any old ground, can it??

Don't you have a standalone? you could probably get one of the unused channels to act as a shift light. no? Just add a lamp or diode of adequate strength to the cowl.

No standalone here - I'm loathe to bin the standard ECU for relatively small extra power gains, electrics hate me and I know I'd be chasing gremlins round the car forever afterwards... lol

I run standalone but even so this is a proper solution and works well.
