Are my arms too long?

Whenever I shift into 2nd or 4th my elbow opens the middle compartment in the 2.5 centre console.

Both the front and centre doors on there are really loose, flap about a bit and open with the slightest touch.

Are they knackered? Should they not have some kind of action like an old skool ash tray that almost clicks open? Is there a fix or is it a new centre console only?

This happened to me too in my mk2.5. I just took the top off of the one closest to the shift knob. much better. There is meant to be a spring there to keep it down but it was never a very strong one.
