Hi,
I need to extend the O2 sensor cable on my car (MK1 1.6). I keep reading conflicting stories about what type of material the cable is made of copper/aluminium etc.
Has as anyone done this? If so did you solder the extension to the original wire?
Thanks
Mick

Hi Mick,
I've always read to avoid extending the wire as you change the resistance to the controller, throwing your readings off. I'm unsure of how much of a problem it would be but i'd try hard to avoid it - with a 5 you should have a lot of wire to play with.
Cheers

It's always best not to extend.
But, if like me you have to (new manifold had a different o2 sensor location) I have plenty of varying wire in the shed so I used ones of similar gauge and Used crimped connections to join, then used heat shrink to individually insulate each connection. It's just normal vehicle wiring cable (single core)
It's passed its MOT since, so even if it's changed resistance values it hasn't caused an issue.
That said, if you unwrap the loom there is a fair bit you can release to gain a couple of inches.
