Wise men of 5's,
after a disastrous venture to Oulton Park and Anglesey i have a rather nasty whining/screeching coming from the back end, im thinking diff.
Symptoms, take up the drive and all is well until i start gunning it then all hell breaks loose, think Horneys supercharger whine x 100. When i back off the throttle ti stops and when i dip the clutch it stops. I have changed the box and clutch today, box from a 1.8 with the stronger syncro's, allegedly. Diff still seems to work ok, no problem leaving 11's down the road and handling is unaffected, just this screeching of which seems metal on metal.
I changed the box as we felt vibration and heard weird noises from it whilst up on the ramps and assumed box was screwed and sending vibration down the drive train, it now seems the opposite is true, diff maybe sending the vibes to the box. Admittedly a regular garage and not an MX specialist, that'll learn me!!
if anyone has any experience or knowledge of this i would be most grateful as i don't want to now change the diff if its not that.
thanks in advance, Darren

Get the back end up in the air and rotate the wheels by hand, listen, could be a wheel bearing, brake pads down to the metal or maybe a diff bearing by your description. Good luck.
