The competition it’s self is going great guns with 60+ active competitors. Think it’s one of the biggest. As for me, not so great. Have cancelled 6 events this season. The organizers have all been brilliant about it. The latest round of chemo has really laid me out, but it’s the last. The daily radio finishes on the 24th June. I’ve got a place at the Canoe Mayo Sprint at Castle Combe in July, so that’s where I shall start my ‘attack in earnest. 🙂 I've only managed one event so far and don't have any illness worries! Glad to hear you're coming out the other side of your treatment.
Doing Brooklands sprint in a couple of weeks, then a trackday at Bedford the following Monday as we have a random day off work!
I checked the CM website but couldn't see any standings, do they only send out to competitors? I might enter it next year as it looks like a good mix of events, just many of them are a long way from Kent.
Join the Facebook page & that should give you more info. But you’re right, the results & digital ‘Oily Rag’ mag are only available to paid up members.

I was at Brooklands last Saturday for the 'Double Twelve' events - Sprint, Autotest and Concours over the weekend, with combined results if you want to enter more than one. I just did the sprint, which was part of our Speed League series. I had done it back in 2017 in my Dad's MG J2 with the VSCC but it hadn't been on our championship calendar before, and apparently they'd not been allowed to run modern cars on it before, it was always vintage. The sprint track was using the handling circuit for Mercedes-Benz World (a big shiny palace in the middle of what was the old banked Brooklands circuit). There's a lot of stuff there nowadays and the banking still appears in various places which is pretty cool. The paddock was on the old finishing straight. The track had one long straight at the start with a fast right hander at the end of it, then a load of 180 degree corners starting out pretty fast and getting slower towards a hairpin, then a straight to the finish. Class A3 (up to 1600cc, 2WD, 1A or 1B tyres) had 11 entries, which is way more than we usually get - a mixture of classic things like Minis, MG midgets and a lovely Renault 8 Gordini, and more modern stuff like Fiestas, a Micra, a square Cinquecento and a Tailgate McNoIndicate Mini. I thought my main competition would be one of the Fiestas (he usually beats me), but it turned out that the classic Mini was fastest by a fair way. I was third fastest after practice, then 2nd fastest for the rest of the time, improving by a second or so each run. The Mini was 2 seconds ahead at one point but I clawed it back to just over a second on the final run, where he didn't improve. Got quite a nice wooden trophy for 2nd in class, and was 19th overall, probably because it was more of a handling/cornering focused track than a power and fast corners one.

Had a great day at Combe today. Every run was quicker than the last & managed to win A3 (roadgoing up to 2600cc). My last run didn’t go according to plan though…

My last run didn’t go according to plan though… I guessed you'd be going for it on the final run - but tbh you looked properly on it for all of your runs - you should post up your best one as well! That was me giving you the thumbs up to come back on - thanks for not making me get the broom out I did wander over during lunch to say hi but you didn't seem to be by the car.
It all looked to run quite smoothly from what I could see, and it was good having access to timing so we knew who was on their way round and how everyone was doing. Congrats on the class win!

gbuk thanks a lot for marshaling 🙂 To get 5 runs is pretty good & it seemed to run well. Sorry I missed you, was hanging around with the other Classic Marques lot near our scoreboard. Here’s a run where I kept it on track.

Excellent performance howardb66, what you didn't mention is that you set the 11th best time for a road-based car - i.e. ignoring the single seaters you were only behind a bunch of Porsche 911s and rally cars!

Off to Curborough this Sunday for a sprint. The weather has well & truly changed, as now the forecast looks like either pi$$ing down all day or some of it. If I was to have a preference, it would be wet in the morning & then drying in the afternoon. It’ll be a good test of the Kaaz as it’s a narrow tight 2nd/3rd gear track. Generally, I don’t do so well here as just have never seemed to get the hang of the place, despite having been going there for about 10 years… Was last there in the wet on R888Rs when the car had a supercharger….

Well, that was a pleasant surprise. The long range forecast was completely different & it was warm+ mostly sunny all day. By the end of the meeting, I’d taken 2 seconds off my personal best & was 3rd in class outright, dropping to 5th once the HC factor was applied. Still, good points for the championship though. Here’s a video of P2. A bit of overcorrection…

They look like two totally different tracks given the way you had to drive them!
New gearbox and short shifter (with a long shifter) - tell us more...

New gearbox and short shifter (with a long shifter) - tell us more... so you've noticed the (expensive-looking) gearstick as well? Rich.
