New gearbox and short shifter (with a long shifter) - tell us more... so you've noticed the (expensive-looking) gearstick as well? Looks like a sequential gearbox!

so you've noticed the (expensive-looking) gearstick as well? Looks like a sequential gearbox! It’s a Finecut short shift. Took a day to get used to it but after that all good. Going to be posting some bolts/threaded bar to South Wales so I can fit my custom knob.

Next Goodwood sprint is this Saturday. I won’t win the championship this year due to not being well but am going to try to do well anyway.😁

I'm interested in one but worrying it's cheaply made and will just rub metal on metal and wear out.

It’s a different bearing arrangement to the IL Motorsport type ones- ie no spherical bearing but 2 pivots. Feels more precise. bofiracing.co.uk/performance/driveline/short-shifters/fine-cut-short-shifter-long-for-mazda-mx-5-na-nb-5-speed/

Goodwood went well. Practice was really slippery as a result of overnight storms so pretty unrepresentative as everyone took it easy, so I went for it & played with the grip levels…
By the time the timed runs started, the track was drying & the times tumbled. We got 4 timed runs & I was steadily chipping away about a second each run, however it wasn’t good enough & ended coming 2nd with a 94.7, slower than previously by 0.8second. Anyway, not bad for an old bloke with cancer.
Here’s one of my not so quick runs-

Saw this video from Damien Bradley in the mental Subaru Legacy and he hit 167mph on the Lavant straight and only finished 10 seconds quicker than you (before being disqualified for being too loud)...

Interesting video. 167 is flipping nuts!!! Surprised that some of the cornering speeds were slower than mine, think my quickest indicated was about 135 but to be honest I don’t watch the speedo much as am trying to pick braking points, lines etc; with my slightly oversized tyres at 70 mph, the gps shows 69 so draw your own conclusions.

Yeah, he was on slicks I think, so tiptoeing a bit around the corners, certainly seemed like there was lots more time to find.

(road/track) I was close to getting one before the swine sold it to someone else!

It did take a little getting used to & struggled with getting 3rd but with a little experience, I can now use it without problem. There is a little over run resonance but I’ve tuned myself out of it.

Last speed event of the season for me this Saturday at Castle Combe. If anyone fancies marshaling, they’re always on the lookout for some & you get a fee lunch.
