Last speed event of the season for me this Saturday at Castle Combe. If anyone fancies marshaling, they’re always on the lookout for some & you get a fee lunch. I was marshalling on Camp Corner last Saturday for the Great Western Sprint - wondered why you weren't there. I did take a look on the Pegasus site on Sunday but they didn't have a marshal request up for the sprint? Anyhow, unlikely I'd be able to make it out for consecutive weeks Have a good one!

Great result for me at Combe yesterday. Practice was very slippery so that was more of a familiarisation lap. We got 3 timed runs with the lead in Classic Marques changing each time. After a couple of lairy runs, I decided to keep it a bit straighter & posted my quickest time on the last run. My only win of the year, but it’s been a tough one.

Well Done. Great in car footage.

Nice work, didn't look overly dramatic, which is probably why it was quick! Doesn't that buzz/vibration just in the sweet spot of your power band drive you crazy? Or is it just an artefact of the video setup?

I’ve put some tape around the bar that it sits on to try & damp it out.

I got this the other night… with thanks to Zed. . Now moving on to get ready for next year.. Was speaking to a few MX5 competitors this season & it looks like the Classic Marques MX5 class will be growing along with the overall competition. If all the people who said they would join, CM will be the biggest sprint & Hillclimb competition in the uk.

Wow, that's a whopper! Well done Howard I've been thinking about doing CM next year (already in the FB group as you might have noticed). Surprising that it's going to be one of the biggest considering only RWD cars can enter, there are plenty of FWD and 4WD cars in the speed league I usually compete in. What do you do for tyres? List 1A for everything or take the % hit for the option to use List 1B?

I use 1B Yokohama AO52s, they’re good in the wet & great in the dry. Very pricey though but I’ve done 1 season & still have enough tread left for about another 3/4 events. But I hear the regs are being tweaked slightly so will make my choice after they’re published. Plus will double check the 2023 blue book too when it comes out.

Haven't seen the CMSCC calendar yet nope. In an ideal world some of the events would be shared with the Sevenoaks Speed League, we have 30+ events so hopefully a few will match up, and best 8 scores is a more realistic target than some competitions.
I have some Toyo R888Rs but feel like they would be a bit dodgy on a wet road in March, so maybe I should bite the bullet and get some all-rounders like Michelin PS3s...

You’re allowed 1 ‘upward’ tyre change in a season. Quite a few start in 1As & then swap to 1Bs when it warms up….
